Many people idealize (and idolize) the first century church, as though it offers the perfect, but unfollowed, example of how the church should function. They had their fair share of struggles as they figured out how the New Covenant related to the Old [Mosaic] Covenant. As we launch into the book of James, understanding that struggle is essential.
