Powerful Tongues

“Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers,” (James 3:1a) is another one of those axioms that has so much practical application by itself that we may inadvertently overlook what follows. We, too easily, fail to connect it to the rest of James chapter three, and in doing so miss the full meaning of the passage. It’s easy to “cherry pick” other verses from James 3 and apply them on their own merit. When we take them as part of the larger whole and consider them in that context, the full implication of James 3:1a becomes clear.
